On a surprisingly balmy January day Elderslie Woodworks hosted its first-ever Open House! We had such a great time we are already planning our second one for November of 2018.
Outside, around the sawmill, our guests had the opportunity to watch and learn about our meticulous sawing and drying processes. Our chainsaw slabbing rigs and swing blade circular sawmill were in action during most of the open house, milling a beautiful 12-foot, 38-inch diameter Black Walnut log from a few hours north of Wichita.
The slabs that were milled today will be carefully air-dried and kiln-finished so that they are ready to fashion into a countertop or tabletop in a couple of years.
We also have plenty of already currently kiln-dried and available live edge slabs for sale that our guests got to peruse too! The retail building was also open and several customers picked out slabs and other lumber for immediate projects.
Inside our woodworking finish shop we were demonstrating our log-to-finished-piece capabilities with countertops, tables, and mantle pieces.
Thank you for joining us, if you were able, and we look forward to our November Open House! Join our mailing list if you’d like to receive periodic updates.
